brief history

Winspeer was founded in 1994 as a wine-importing agency focused on sales and distribution in Canada's 4th largest province, Alberta. Next, Winspeer expanded its territory to include all of western Canada being the provinces of British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. In March 2006 we continued to expand through the formation of a new subsidiary, Altovin International Ltée, as we moved into Quebec.

Our agency is comprised of individuals with extensive experience and knowledge in this industry. Our marketing and sales force comes from within the industry, with particular expertise in product knowledge of wines from the world over.

In the spring of 1998, the company underwent a financial and management restructuring that provided the infrastructure to sustain continued growth. The founder, Bob Harkness, sold his minority interest in the company and, after a period of providing consulting services, left the company in late 1998 to pursue other interests in the wine and food importing industry. Winspeer is a privately held company with senior management holding a significant interest.

In 2001, Winspeer joined the Trialto Wine Group of companies. Trialto is comprised of three separate and competing fine wine marketing companies:

Liquid Art Fine Wines Ltd.
Winspeer International Group Ltd./Altovin International Ltée
Calibrium International Ltd.

Each company operates separate sales and marketing teams but shares "back-office" accounting, finance and computer systems. The entire Trialto group employs 35 people across Canada. Together the Trialto group represents the largest market share of the over $25.00 import wine segment and are considered market leaders in premium wines from Argentina, Australia, France, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, United States, Spain and Chile.

In 2006 Winspeer launched in the Quebec market under the name Altovin International Ltée. In July of 2009 Winspeer completed a 3 year rebranding process and became Altovin International Ltd. across all of Canada.
